How to Master: The PONCHO-CAPE
Hellooo
I must first thank the readers who visited me on my very first publication in this blog! I am so happy! Thank you very much really, I hope the upcoming posts will be as inspiring as the first one
Today I come to you with a piece that I LOVE but that unfortunately, the weather challenges I experience in Stockholm make it a bit more difficult to me to wear it: THE PONCHO/CAPE. Yes, that piece of robe that sometimes looks like a blanket thrown on you and that if worn wrong, it will make you look like an onion. NOT KIDDING. The Poncho wearing is an art, really, but nothing we cannot pull off, right?
I got one last fall from Åhléns, it was a risky choice as it is in a red navajo pattern and I thought that I would only wear it last year; but to my surprise, this fall-winter ponchos and capes are still going strong and me happy 'cause I'm a big fan of layering.
The Poncho-cape is a great investment, they're an awesome transitional piece from winter to spring and you'll use them much more than you think. Put together with the right style and accessories it will give us that boho-chic look so desired at the moment with that 70's vibe we're dying for.
Last year's hit was the Burberry Prorsum cape that you could even personalise with your embroided initials (!!!) and that of course all our fav celebs mastered 100% top.
As I mentioned before, there is a small line that we SHALL NOT cross when wearing the poncho-cape because we can go from elegance to trash in just a snap! let's take a look on how to master this trend. We can take great inspiration from one of my favourite Spanish bloggers: http://stylelovely.com/mydailystyle/, Mireia really knows how to master the poncho in all seasons and even when she was pregnant, she is such an inspiration!
On a personal remark, I'll leave the ponchos for always pants, I have problems when worn with skirts and I believe the pants bring down the sover character of the poncho-cape. We can mix them with over-the-knee boots and skinny pants or with flared pants if we want to pursue the 70's vibe. they're great with hats and bream-hats and I see them as well with the current beret trend.
As per the top, use warm base layers (they're great for these extra glamorous looks) and master the layer on layer art, by wearing a turtle neck top under a shirt, put on a blazer or a thin down jacket, gloves and a tote bag. You'll turn heads, promise!
