365 days later
365 days has passed since I went to American to work as an au pair outside of Washington D.C. A whole year has passed in the Capital, and today I’m leaving it for Los Angeles, CA.
I can not believe how fast this year has gone by! I remember the days before I left Sweden like it was yesterday - how nervous I was, things that had to get done, what to pack, saying goodbye to my friends, woking my last days at my old job and so on. And just like in a blink of an eye, a whole year has passed since those last days in Sweden. And I have never ever regret coming here. It’s honestly the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m not saying that it’s been an easy ride though, ’cause I sure have been through a lot. But I’ve learned so much about myself, but also about living abroad, being some sort of house wife/nanny, only having me, myself and I to rely on to never take things for granted. I must also say that I’m pretty damn good at adjusting myself to all sorts of people and situations now. lol.

I thought I’d enlighten you on some of my highlights from the past 365 days! Here it goes…
- Getting introduced to Therese and Matilda in late January - miss them every day :(
- Watching my first Caps game and got to met the Swedish players afterwards
- Working out with my personal trainer, Yolee. She was my highlights for several weeks during the spring.
- Having Sandra by my side since day one. USA wouldn’t be the same without her<3
- Having my parents in town
- Every single time I’ve been in Georgetown. It has everything you need, and it’s always this good vibe on M street that I just can’t get enough of<3
- My very spontaneous trip to NYC over the day to see Paula and Sofia
- Spending the last weekend of June at Virginia Beach with Therese, Matilda and Sandra. Most relaxing weekend ever.
- I visited 16 different states - some more than ones, like FL, NY, PA and so on.
- Spending 98% of all the days of summer break at the pool with the boys. Loved it!
- Texas!! Visited my girl Paula and had a blast.
- Taking my boys to everything from a aquarium in Baltimore to the zoo to a tree top climbing place to American ninja worrier places to the cinema and so on. We've had a blast!!
- Having Emma here with me, going everywhere from Maryland to Florida. Boy that was two good weeks…
- Chicago for 24 hours with Sandy - fave city btw!!
- Ed Sheeran with Paula
- H a l l o w e e n - no words needed (don’t remember much tbh.. jokes on me!)
- Christmas in Pittsburgh with the sweetest family<3
When you’re reading this I am somewhere up in the air. I can tell you that I’m most likely still sniffling from saying goodbye to the family. I’d also say that I’m a mix of being nervous and excited, cause that’s how I’ve felt the past couple of weeks. Anyways, I’ll get back to you again when I’m settled in my new home. In Los Angeles.. in the State of my dreams.. omg this is really happening…..
Last but not least; thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone I’ve met in 2017 - you are of the corner pieces to why this year turned out the way it did. When I’ll look back at my time in D.C, you’re the first thing I’ll think of (after my boys..). Thank you to my friends and family back in Sweden for supporting me though this journey and for forgiving me when I didn’t call as often as I should’ve (or when I called too often).. I’d be nothing without you. Last but not least, to my amazing American family; I love you so much. We’ve been through a lot, and to end our time right now hurts was more than I thought it would. This is not a goodbye though, more ”I’ll see you later”. I’m forever grateful for everything you’ve done for me, so thank you. And now before it gets too cheesy (you know I hate that, cheesy things) I’m gonna call it a day.
THANK YOU FOR THE BEST YEAR EVER, YOU FILTHY ANIMALS!!! Ttyl
