SEOUL

So, the reason why I haven't written anything on the blog for some time is because I've been too busy enjoying myself in the world's most awesome city – Seoul. Here comes a blog post about our week in Seoul (without being to chatty about it).We flew in to Seoul from Fukuoka the 3rd of april. Everything went fine and we arrived at our hostel around 9 pm (after a long time trying to find it). The same night we took a stroll in our neighbourhood which was a bit rough but totally fine. We went to a chicken restaurant and ate teriyaki chicken with rice. After that we just fell asleep. The next morning it was finally time to see the city for real! We took the metro (which was luckily very close to our hostel) to a place called Myeong-Dong – The shopping mekka of Seoul. It was fun just to walk around, browsing in shops and looking at things. Later on we had our first bowl of Bibimbap. For those of you who doesn't know what Bibimbap is, it is the main dish in South Korea. Bibimbap actually means "stirred rice" in korean and it is basicallya bowl with white rice. On top there's like "stations" of vegetables and meat. On top of everything there's an egg (I just had it with fried egg before, but ofcourse it had to be raw in Seoul..).The dish was so spicy and a little bit scary so I didn't eat my whole bowl. One day we went to the War Memorial of Seoul and this was actually the best thing we did all week. One of my all-time-favourite-movies is korean and it's called "Tae Guk Gi" which is the name ofthe korean flag. The english title is "Brotherhood of War" and it's a movie about the korean war. So, anyway, we took the metro to the place where the War Memorial was and we started by eatinglunch at a pasta restaurant. After that we finally entered the War Memorial of Korea and it was amazing. We were "greeted" by a huge statue of two fighting soldiers (I think it was one SouthKorean soldier and one North Korean fighter). In the same are there was another two huge statues of soldiers, poor people and children. The statues were so dramatic and huge that I got teary. It is so sadwith war and there's no ideology worth dying for. After watching these magnificent statues, we continued our little trip and went to see old aircrafts and ships used during the war. Some were korean, some were american. USA sent a lot of troops in aid of South Korea during the war. The famous statue of the War Memorial of Korea Those red dots on the ship is old bullet holes.. Infront of the War Museum Some short information about the korean war for those who doesn't know: On the 25th of june, year 1950, North Korea declared war on South Korea. North Korean troops surprised South Korea who was not at all prepared for war. This obviously gave North Korea an advantagesince South Korea didn't have troops prepared. The people started to run for their lives while troops prepared for war. On the North Korean side was China and the Soviet Union and on the South Koreanside was USA and many FN countries. North Korea had wanting a war on South for some time and needed both China and the Soviet Union on their side. Both Stalin and Mao were very doubtful to participatesince they were afraid what would happen if USA were on the South Korean side. But leader Kim II Sung outplayed Mao and Stalin by having them believe that the victory would come easily and that USAwould not interfere. However, he was clearly very wrong and a huge war were held. The Korean war took a lot of human lives. Around one million people on each side were killed and USA lost 36 000 peopleand China more than half a million people. In total almost four million people died in the war and the most part of them were civilian. And for what? An ideology? In the end no one won the warNorth and South Korea agreed on ceasefire. This is something they still have – more than 60 years later. I could go on and on about this war for a long time so I better stop here. But as you can clearly see, war is horrible and to visit the War Memorial of Korea was such a sad experience but at the same time very interesting and educative.  EN ESPAÑOLSEÚL Por lo tanto, la razón por la que no he escrito nada en el blog desde hace algún tiempo es porque he estado demasiado ocupado disfrutando en la ciudad más impresionante del mundo - Seúl. A continuación viene un post sobre nuestra semana en Seúl (sin ser hablador que de ello). Volamos a Seúl desde Fukuoka para el 3 de abril. Todo fue muy bien y llegamos a nuestro albergue a las 9 pm (después de mucho tiempo tratando de encontrar). La misma noche nos dio un paseo en nuestro barrio, que era un poco peligrosa, pero totalmente bien. Fuimos a un restaurante de pollo y comimos pollo teriyaki con arroz. Después de eso nos quedamos dormidos. A la mañana siguiente llegó la hora de ver la ciudad de verdad! Tomamos el metro (que fue afortunadamente muy cerca de nuestro hostal) a un lugar llamado Myeong-Dong - La meca comercial de Seúl. Fue divertido para pasear, navegar en las tiendas y ver las cosas. Más tarde tuvimos nuestro primer plato de bibimbap. Para aquellos de ustedes que no sabe lo que es Bibimbap, es el plato principal en Corea del Sur. Bibimbap en realidad significa "arroz revuelto" en coreano y es básicamente un recipiente con arroz blanco. En la parte superior hay como "estaciones" de verduras y carne. Por encima de todo hay un huevo (que acaba de tener con huevo frito antes, pero por supuesto que tenía que ser cruda en Seúl ..). El plato era tan picante y un poco de miedo por lo que no se comió toda mi tazón. Un día fuimos al Memorial de la Guerra de Seúl y esto fue realmente la mejor cosa que hicimos durante toda la semana. Uno de mis todos los tiempos-favorito-movies es coreano y se llama "Tae Guk Gi", que es el nombre de la bandera coreana. El título Inglés es "Hermandad de la Guerra" y es una película sobre la guerra de Corea. Así que, de todos modos, tomamos el metro hasta el lugar donde estaba el monumento de la guerra y empezamos por comer el almuerzo en un restaurante de pasta. Después de que por fin entramos en el Memorial de la Guerra de Corea y fue increíble. Nos "bienvenida" por una enorme estatua de dos soldados de combate (creo que era un soldado de Corea del Sur y un combatiente de Corea del Norte). En la misma son hubo otros dos enormes estatuas de soldados, los pobres y los niños. Las estatuas fueron tan dramáticos y enorme que me dieron llorosos. Es tan triste con la guerra y no hay ideología vale la pena morir. Después de ver estas magníficas estatuas, continuamos nuestro pequeño viaje y fuimos a ver los aviones viejos y barcos utilizados durante la guerra. Algunos eran coreano, algunos eran americanos. EE.UU. envió una gran cantidad de tropas en ayuda de Corea del Sur durante la guerra. Algunos breve información acerca de la guerra de corea para aquellos que no sabe: El 25 de junio de 1950, Corea del Norte declaró la guerra a Corea del Sur. las tropas de Corea del Norte Corea del Sur sorprendió que no estaba en absoluto preparado para la guerra. Esto, obviamente, Corea del Norte dio una ventaja ya que Corea del Sur no tenía tropas preparadas. Las personas comenzaron a correr por sus vidas mientras que las tropas prepararse para la guerra. En el lado de Corea del Norte fue China y la Unión Soviética y en el lado de Corea del Sur fue de EE.UU. y muchos países FN. Corea del Norte tuvo que quieran una guerra contra el Sur desde hace algún tiempo y que necesitaba tanto China y la Unión Soviética de su lado. Tanto Stalin y Mao fueron muy dudoso a participar ya que temían que pasaría si EE.UU. estaban del lado de Corea del Sur. Pero el líder Kim II Sung superó a Mao y Stalin, haciéndoles creer que la victoria llegaría fácilmente y que EE.UU. no interferiría. Sin embargo, él era claramente muy mal y se llevaron a cabo una guerra enorme. La guerra de Corea tomó una gran cantidad de vidas humanas. Alrededor de un millón de personas en cada lado murieron y EE.UU. perdieron 36 000 personas y China más de medio millón de personas. En total casi cuatro millones de personas murieron en la guerra y en su mayor parte de ellos eran civiles. ¿Y para qué? Una ideología? Al final nadie ganó la guerra del Norte y Corea del Sur acordaron el cese del fuego. Esto es algo que todavía tienen - más de 60 años después. Podría seguir y seguir sobre esta guerra durante mucho tiempo, así que mejor parada aquí. Pero como se puede ver claramente, la guerra es horrible y para visitar el Memorial de la Guerra de Corea fue una experiencia tan triste pero a la vez muy interesante y educativo. Los otros días en Seúl que fueron a Gangnam, que es en realidad más que una canción para los que no saben;) es un distrito de Gangnam para los que tienen dinero. Y ya que no son muy ricos, hemos tenido que conformarse con un plato de bibimbap barato y el sueño de distancia, en los escaparates. Tanto mi y Patricio encantó Seúl y creo que fue sobre todo porque se sentía tan relajada. También era mucho más barato que el de Japón y tenía algunas grandes tiendas! En realidad no podemos expresarnos sobre el pueblo coreano, ya que realmente no hablar con nadie, pero por lo que vimos que parecen ser grandes. Y cuando llegamos nos dieron la ayuda de un hombre coreano tipo de encontrar nuestro albergue. En realidad estamos pensando en volver a Corea el próximo año, pero luego de permanecer más tiempo.
