SAPLUNARA, ISLAND OF MLJET
--------------------- Stayed at: Villa Basica Ate at: Frankas Visited: The Saplunara beaches --------------------------- Woke up to another sunny & warm day in Sobra. a sea lion was drying off outside :) We rolled out of bed and strolled down to the water, the incredible luxury in having the Adriatic sea literally outside your window. No better way to wake up! We had breakfast by the water, until the wasps decided to take over :/ Extra tidbit for non-sensitive readers: D. smacked one with a shoe, a few minutes later there was nothing left of it. NOTHING. Wasps are cannibals apparently. E.W. Our host had kindly offered to drive us to our next destination in exchange for a small fee. We waited for him in a hammock underneath the grapevines. 20 minutes on a high, winding (terrifying) road later we were in the town of Saplunara! I was excited to discover our home for the night. Villa Basica was a nice place (everything felt very new and clean), a couple of minuses were the lack of wi-fi (tricky when you're winging everything a bit and need to check ferries for the next day) & air conditioning (it is HOT in August). I was still happy :))) We headed straight for the beach! Wandered through the town to get there. Pretty damn idyllic. We found a beach! Celebrated with beer! And Margaritas from the beach bar :D Wandered back to the villa when we were all beached out. Who am I kidding, I'm never all beached out! Anyway, needed to freshen up a bit before dinner. Evening sun <3 <3 <3 We decided on a place nearby with a beautiful view of I sort of laughed at the fact that the first thing on their menu was the info about the complaints book, but soon realized I shouldn't have laughed... Duncan had left me at this point so I cheered all by lonesome. Independent woman and all that. (Also D. had just gone up the stairs to buy a deck of cards) He came back! I was happy! Now for the food. It was cheap, and the quality of the food sadly reflected that. We had a mixed grilled dish to share (pretty much every restaurant has an open fire where the chef works) and it was... sad. The tuna was like a piece of rubber, we don't normally send things back but we weren't going to touch it in the state that it was in. When the chef came over and asked what the problem was he said he couldn't cook tuna any other way because it would be bad for your body. HAHA. Excuse me while I laugh up my sashimi. Anyway, the setting was beautiful and I was going to be darned happy either way. I feel like they were trying extra hard after that failure at least, the chef even climbed up on a bench to take a this very touristy (or cute?!) picture of us, hehe. The dinner ended in some more goat cheese (not as nice as the first place) and hanging out on our own little balcony. Playing games, listening to music, watching the stars <3 The next day we were off to the next island!
