Let's talk about sleep
Hey guys, how’re you feeling today? I’m feeling calm and ready for a new week. I just got my results back from some tests and practical exams that I did last week and they all went amazing which made me so happy and ready to take on the second half of this semester. Anyways, today I’m thinking we’re gonna talk a bit about sleep. The major reason behind this is that my sleep’s been quiet bad lately and I feel like I need a bit of a reboot when it comes to this area of my life. As we all know, sleep is essential for most things in our life - it allows us to recharge our batteries, rebuild our bodies and in many ways heal ourselves. How much sleep a person needs is of course individual but I tend to need somewhere between 7 to 8 hours, anything less or more usually makes me tired, less concentrated and a bit grumpy throughout the day. Simply put, if I sleep too much or too little my life gets a lot harder than it has to be haha. So, what can you actually do enhance your chances of a good nights sleep? Tip number 1 ♥ Try and create a good bedtime routine where you give yourself time to wind down. Light some candles, have a warm shower before getting in your pj’s and put the phone away at least 30 minutes before its time to sleep. After a full day of work and studies there’s so much going on in your head that you need to give yourself the time to relax properly before actually heading to bed. Tip number 2 ♥ If you’re not getting enough sleep or feel that you constantly wake up throughout the night increasing magnesium in your diet might help. Research has shown that the level of magnesium in our bodies is related to sleep quality so this one might be worth a try. I personally find that I sleep A LOT better when I make sure to get enough magnesium in my body. Side note: magnesium supplementation can also work wonders if you have bad period cramps like me (!). Tip number 3 ♥ Lavender, lavender, lavender... Not only does it smell heavenly but it also works as a sedative and therefore helps promote a good sleep. There’s several ways in which you can use lavender, the easiest probably being as an essential oil you put in a diffuser. However, I have also seen that you can buy lavender oil as a “roll-on” that can be used on your body before bedtime.
