Midsummer at Battery Park in New York City
Yesterday we celebrated Midsummer @ Battery Park in Manhattan. I've heard a lot about this celebration, which apparently is the biggest Midsummer celebration in the WORLD. And it didn't disappoint. So many different vendors, food, flower crowns and most importantly Swedes. We brought some snacks and drinks, and sat out on the lawn right by the maypole. This was Anton's first official Midsummer and he was such a great sport about the whole thing. He danced along to all the different songs around the maypole and embraced his new culture very well. The entrance to the event was so pretty with blue and yellow ribbons and flowers hanging down from the trees. The women's group that I am part of, SWEA NY, were helping people making flower crowns throughout the day. Next year I'll definitely volunteer and help them out. Large and small Swedish flags everywhere. Spent the day with our new friends Moa and Miguel. So many people, both kids and adults, participating in the celebration. Glad Midsommar from us!!!
