SATURDAY IN SAN SEBASTIAN.
On Saturday Duncan, Kat and I set off for Spain! Piglet was safely strapped in the rental car, safety first and all that. After a long drive (well, for Duncan - for Kat and I it was just a long ride.. hehe) we made it to San Sebastian! We checked in to Green nest hostel and started apero-hour on the balcony :))) It was beautifully located on top of a hill, surrounded by greenery. It was a fair bit away from the actual town though, so we did what the locals do and got the bus! An extremely squished 20 minute ride later we were in the heart of San Sebastian! Where there was a party on in the whole town! The guy at the hostel told us that there would be fireworks later on that night and when we asked why his answer was "well, it's Spain!" and laughed :D We were more than ready for some tapas so headed to a place that had been recommended to us. The woman said it would be around a 15 minute wait and since Kat and I were both very hungry we were immediately skeptical.. Duncan really wanted to try it though so we sat down by the bar with some white wine - and were quickly happy that we did, it was delicious! Not long after we were seated and ordered the tasting menu, did you know that San Sebastian is the town with the most michelin star-ed restaurants in the world?? I didn't until around last week, but what we quickly found out is that the quality of the food in that town is extremely high! And for three people like us, being used to Paris prices, it really wasn't expensive either. One weird, amazing, artistic, extremely tasty thing after the other rolled out. This one for example, was not for eating but just for the scent :O it was presented with an actual dish and was supposed to complement the flavours. Photo of the year of Kat :D This one was razor clams layed out as a game (waiters word, not mine hehe), fish them out of this tiny bottle (much trickier than we first thought) then drink the broth inside as a shot. Fun and really yummy! Thank you Zeruko! We loved it!! After dinner we strolled around the old town for a bit and stumbled on a heavy metal bar where they sold beer out of a side window. Yes please we said and had cheap pints of lager :) We strolled along the vibrant town and checked out a little market-looking area. Next stop, another recommendation: La Gintoneria! At this point it was around 3AM (we left Paris at 8 that morning...) and we found out the hard way that taxis don't just stop if you wave them down... we managed to go local again though and catch the nightbus! An experience for sure. Spotted bats on the way back to the hostel then passed out for the night... phew! Now in another Spanish town, but more about that soon! Goodnight guys!!
