DIY WATERING SYSTEM.
Since I've become slightly obsessed with plants I was fretting over what to do with my plant-babies when we went on holiday. I thought about lugging them all over to one of my families places, so that they could water them along with their own plants. That felt like quite a mission though so wasn't stoked about it.. just leaving them and doing nothing wasn't an option, so I started looking in to watering systems. You can get fancy expensive ones, but who has time for that? I finally found a video with someone who had a really simple-looking DIY solution, I decided to give it a go. You fill up a bowl with water (well, the person in the video filled up plastic bags and poked holes in them, but again, who has time for that??), pop a piece of thick string in there and pop the other end of the string in to the soil of plant. I did a bunch in one bowl of water, praying and hoping that they wouldn't all die. I did the same with pretty much all of them, except for the ones still rooting in glasses of water & the ones that only need to be watered once every week or so. I figured they would be ok anyway. And guys, IT WORKED!!! I was prepared to come home to sad, drooping, some possibly dead plants. But they've all thrived!!! BEFORE Growing quickly, started with a cutting of maybe three leaves from one of mom's plants, back in May. I water & spray it pretty much daily. AFTER After 9 days of the watering system it's developed SO MANY new leaves!! It's like a little bush now :O love it! BEFORE The only avocado that I've planted so far. It grows slowly, but steadily. AFTER It's grown lots of new baby leaves up top! Looking greener & healthier than ever :) BEFORE The latest one to be put in water, but also the quickest one to grow. They all sit next to each other in the window and its buddy is also in water (not planted), not sure why this one grows so much quicker? Maybe it's just a different kind of avocado? AFTER The stem is a lot thicker and sturdier, the leaves are brighter, bigger & there are many more of them. It's starting to resemble an actual little tree!! SO happy that I tried this method! Not pictured are our three Ivys that have never looked better, dark green and bushy. It's so good to know that I can leave for a week or two and they will happily look after themselves <3 Have any of you tried different watering systems before? Would love to hear about your experiences!!
