BLUE CAVE.
On day two on the island of Vis we went for a bit of a walk away from the town. Saw this enticing thing on the way, more about that later... Also found an abandoned place, looked like an old factory. I <3 abandoned things. This lovely beach was our goal! But we didn't stay long, we had another goal with our day... wandered back to town, stopped for some shade and a cool drink and a super cozy little beach bar. Fantasized about what it would be like if it was our little beach bar. One can dream :) I actually now think that this was two separate days, not one, because this next part happened bright and early in the morning. Hmm. Anyway, we were out on the water again! The boat stopped three times, once to drop off groceries for people who live on an otherwise stranded island, the second by the ticket office/starting point to go to the blue cave and a third time by this absolutely amazing beach. Now our plan was to go to the blue cave but we didn't understand that we should have gotten off on the second stop, so stayed on to the last one... So we quickly came up with a plan B: walk over to the blue cave, do a tour, walk back, spend the rest of the time at the beautiful beach then catch the boat back from there. Now what we didn't realize was that it wasn't just a "walk", it was more of a hike over a hill. Add 35 degrees heat and you get two tired tourists. BUT we got to see an abandoned little village which did make me happy. We finally made it to the ticket office, which we had gone past on the boat a bit earlier.. only this time, it was PACKED. So learn from our mistakes: get off the boat at the right stop & get there early. Like first tour of the day-early.Anyway, we were determined to visit these damn caves so bought our tickets and sat down for a long wait. So you know how I said get there early etc? Well alternative 2 is to bring a Duncan with you, he'll make friends with a tour guide from Brac who will offer you a boat outing on a little speedboat-thingie :D Then you too can have THIS much fun ;) So just a few hours in to our day we had been on two different boats, walked what felt like 10K, seen two well known places of Bisevo and were now back to where we started. Phew. Took a break with this bread/cheese/courgette-thingie. Mmm. Then it was finally time to head back and hopefully visit the blue cave!! With these superfriendly people on a superfun superfast boat :D I'd recommend this company to anyone, Brac excursions for the win :D We got back in perfect time to queue up for a short while then pile into yet another boat, finally we were gonna see the magical caves! Now: it was really pretty and really blue. But honestly? That was about it. You're only inside the cave for around 2 minutes, you peek around a bit then you're swooshed back to the ticket office. Pretty yes, but maybe not worth hours and hours of waiting. If you go - again, just make sure you're there first thing and you'll be able to hop on the first boat and see it straigt away! Then it was time for the long walk back... at least this time, we knew what we were in for. Duncan carried his bag and mine to keep me happy and as comfortable as possible <3 I do still recommend to hike to this beach - just maybe not twice... if I could do it again I'd do blue caves first, then walk across to this beach and get a boat back from there. And stop for salty fries at the little beach resto :) We were back in Komiza in time for sunset. This night we were camping, you know the beach at the very start of this post? Well above it an American guy has bought a piece of land where he lets people camp for free :) I feel like this is one of those look at us we're so outdoorsy and nature is amazing-pics from instagram/pinterest. But really, how gorgeous is this??? Sunset and sleeping under the stars... Last one, promise. We headed back in to town at dusk, to find a place to eat. But this became a massive post so I'm saving that for another day!
