APRIL READING.
I ended the March-reading post with this book, which I had just started reading. I fairly quickly realised that this wasn't really a book for me, but stubborn as I am I had to get through it anyway. In short it's a book written by a guy who sounds incredibly insecure, about the bands he likes (and if you don't like them, you are wrong, according to him), with fun tid bits like the one about how women can't listen to heavy metal because we don't have the attention span of a "real" (male) fan. Made me want to puke. Or punch Chuck Klosterman at least. What a dick. Moving on! Kvinna med födelsemärke/Woman with birthmark & Kommissarien och tystnaden/The inspector and Silenceboth by Håkan NesserAs I've gone on about before, I love Swedish detective novels. They have a darkness and melancholia that I haven't found in another cultures writing. Håkan Nesser is one of the greats, his books are just as good as standard novels as they are murder mysteries. These two are part of a series about inspector Van Veeteren, but can be read in any order. I'm unsure of which ones I've read, but will have to work my way through them all at some point. Love them. The handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood And this is what I'm currently reading! I haven't seen the series, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm finding it excruciatingly slow for the most part, every now and again you get a clue of what's going on and that keeps me reading, but for the most of it I'm just waiting for the chapter to end.. possibly a controversial statement as I know a lot of people absolutely love it. I've been falling behind a bit on my reading, I think to a large extent due to the fact that this isn't the kind of book that I can't wait to pick up again, unfortunately. I am almost done with it now though, so I'll try and squeeze in a couple of quicker reads before the end of May! Find March reading here.
