A TRIP UP MONTE IGUELDO AND A NIGHT IN SAN SEBASTIAN.
On Sunday, one week ago, we were still in San Sebastian. I had written down a few things that I thought would be nice for us to do (I'm the planner of the group), Monte Igueldo was on the top of my list! Here: two excited ones on the funicular. After the beautiful ride up (and not scary! Even for someone petrified of heights!) we took in the views. Hi San Sebastian! You're very pretty. There's an old amusement park up there which we obviously wanted to see! I tossed up between this mountain top and the other one in town (Monte Urgull) but the latter didn't have a funicular or an amusement park so it was a pretty easy choice after all... Drinks break! Spritzes and Basque Sangria. Refreshing. When we decided that we'd had enough amusement up there we headed back down to sea level again. To the beach! But we're skipping ahead a few hours since this particular camera got to stay in the car for that little trip. Fast forward two hours or so, we were on our way in to town again. There was some kind of street party going on, I love that we managed to come here when there are things going on pretty much every day. Is it always like this or did we get lucky? Anyway, this entailed everyone dressing up in 20's gear and taking to the streets. Duncan asked one of them what the deal was and got the response that it was just a fun tradition, but we saw lots of signs that said something about communism and people wore stickers with the name of a news paper so I'm thinking it was something a bit more political? Any guesses?? We were getting hungry and sat down at a place that had been recommended to us. Managed to sneak in JUST in time before people were queuing up around the block. Yay! The tapas started rolling out... This was the best octopus I've ever tasted! Not sure if any other octopus will ever live up to it. Thank you La cuchara de San Telmo, I will tell everyone I meet about you. Laughed at this sign along the beach, absolutely forbidden to bring dogs, fly kites and play Olympic Sports??? Haha.. Thank you for a great weekend San Sebastian, the next day we were off to much quieter Puerto de Vega!
